Time of My Life

This was the first piece of art that I ever signed and framed. It is one of my favorite compositions and will probably always be. I am writing this about 6 months after the initial creation and can still recall the feelings and thoughts I had during its creation. When I first sat down to put pen to paper, I was overcome with feelings of love and calmness that stemmed from being in my own art studio in a dream home in a dream town. I had spent about $100 to create a setup that I could finally get the ideas from my head, to paper. It was a simple setup, with simple medium and supplies; however, it was mine.

For the first time I felt like I had something original in my head that needed to come out. It was the first time that I actually stopped to dissect why I never considered myself an artist. Before this piece, I never had the confidence in my original ideas to think of myself an artist. I considered myself a designer and nothing more.

I thought that was my lane, but it wasn’t.

I realized that I actually did have my own original concepts and that I needed to share them. A mentor once said “design has to work, while art does not.” I truly felt that. With my business and operations background, my design always fulfilled a need- usually a business need. The need this time was nothing more than I was seeing shapes and concepts in my head, and they needed to come out.

My love for my home and art studio led my hand and pen strokes; but it was so much more than that. It was a love for The Bay Area and everything that comes with it. The Golden Gate Bridge, the access to nature, the laid back attitude of locals. Our home is perched in a beautifully green hillside just south of San Francisco proper. With views of San Francisco from most of our windows, the magic is always ready to enjoy.
